The Saint Mark Brass
Mission
To be a self-funded, high-level double brass quintet that serves the musical needs and goals of Saint Mark’s ministries, its members, and the vibrant Atlanta arts community for years to come.
Background
Established in 2002, the Saint Mark Brass is an all-volunteer ensemble comprised of top amateur and semi-professional Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba players, and is quickly becoming Midtown Atlanta’s most sought-after chamber music ensemble. The Brass participates in Saint Mark worship providing voluntaries, accompaniment for choral music and congregational hymn singing, and major concert efforts during the Christmas and Easter seasons. The Brass also makes guest appearances and stages concerts with a variety of both secular and sacred repertoire throughout the year.
Repertoire
The Brass performs a wide range of works, encompassing virtually all relevant musical styles and difficulty levels, including sacred, classical, gospel, jazz, holiday, Broadway, and more. In recent years, our audiences have heard us play Glorias by Rutter and Vivaldi; Just a Closer Walk in the Dixieland arrangement from The Canadian Brass; Traditionals like When the Saints Go Marchin’ In, Down by the Riverside, and Deep River; various Gabrieli Sonatas and other antiphonal works with and without help from the magnificent Aeolian Skinner Organ in the Saint Mark Sanctuary; and many, many more.
Rehearsals
Weekly rehearsals are scheduled as needed and typically on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the McDowell Fine Arts Center, located on the top floor of the Saint Mark education building. Click here for directions.
