GEM: Worship
Serve on Worship Planning Committee
Worship is the heart of the congregation’s spiritual life. At Saint Mark, we work diligently and collaboratively to plan and lead worship that is creative, inclusive and meaningful, leading people into a deeper relationship with God and one another. The Planning Team works with the pastoral staff and worship participants to design and coordinate the worship services, particularly in the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany and Lent/Easter/Pentecost season cycles.
- Time Commitment: Committee term is one year, beginning in January. Meetings will occur approximately once per quarter.
Acolyte/Crucifer
Assist in our Sunday morning worship services by bringing the cross and the light of Christ into our worship service. You would also be available to assist the pastors as needed during worship.
- Time commitment: During worship, once per month.
Altar Guild
Setting up the alter on Sunday morning, prior to first service. (Alter cloths, candles, cross, baptismal pitcher and Ministers water goblets).
- Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes, rotating schedule.
Taking down the alter after second service, reverse of set-up.
- Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes, rotating schedule.
Caring for the alter cloths and communion cloths. Communion cloths need to be laundered after each use. (washing and ironing).
- Time Commitment: 2 hours, once a month and special occasions.
Audio/Visual and Soundboard Tech
Oversees microphones and sound during Sunday worship services or at special Saint Mark events or weddings. Providing sound and video support for all of the different Ministry of the church.We man the sound board for all sanctuary services. Provide sound and video for Wednesday Nights and work closely with the music and drama departments to support their activities.The 11:15 service is recorded each Sunday and those CD’s are available for purchase.
- Time commitment: Rotating schedule or as needed/as available.
Communion Server
The first Sunday of each month is Saint Mark Communion Service. Three congregation members assist the ministerial staff by holding the cup or giving the bread.
- Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes, rotating schedule and during the Communion portion of our worship service.
Communion Steward
Prepare the alter, present the bread and juice during the offertory and assist in replenishing the bread to the minister during the giving of communion.
- Time Commitment: 1st or 2nd service during the Communion portion of our worship service.
Donate Flowers
Flowers in a worship service are beautiful to the eye. They can also be beautiful to the heart when they are used to honor or remember a special person or occasion. You can provide flowers for the Sunday morning worship services. You can use the florist of your choice or one from a list in the church office. Approximate cost for the two floral arrangements is $150.
Greeter - Red Doors/Front Entrance
We want all persons to feel like honored guests from the first minute they arrive at our red doors. Greeters warmly welcome members and guests as they arrive for worship, answering questions and giving directions as needed. When folks join during the service, greeters also welcome them into the church family and provide them with a New Member Packet.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule. Arrive 30 minutes prior to service, stay at the door until 10 minutes after start of service and in a seat until the end of the service.
Lay Reader
The reading of scriptures and other sacred texts in worship is a vital part of the service. We regularly have lay readers in our seasonal services (Advent Sundays, Christmas Eve, Good Friday, etc.) and would like to expand this ministry to involve lay readers in more Sunday morning services. Readers will be scheduled and given the texts in advanced and training will be provided.
- Time Commitment: Rotating schedule.
Seasonal Decorating
Join with others to help create decorations for the sanctuary and the church during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost and other special services.
- Time commitment: Seasonal.
Ushers
Ushers warmly welcome all worshippers, provide them with worship folders, and help them find a seat as needed. During each service, the ushers take up the morning offering, and during Holy Communion, they direct folks to the Table. Ushers may assist with other worship details as needed.
- Time Commitment: Sundays, both services, every third month
Wedding Committee
This committee’s ministry is to help make weddings at Saint Mark a memorable worship experience for the couples involved.
- Time Commitment: Three hours the day of the wedding, once every two months.
